Treatment of DVT & IVC Filter Placement
Treatment of DVT & IVC Filter Placement

Deep vein thrombosis, or deep venous thrombosis, (DVT) is the formation of a blood clot (thrombus) within a deep vein, predominantly in the legs. Non-specific signs may include pain, swelling, redness, warmness, and engorgedsuperficial veins. Pulmonary embolism, a potentially life-threatening complication, is caused by the detachment (embolization) of a clot that travels to the lungs.

Inferior vena cava filters (IVC filters) are umbrella like metallic devices & are used as they reduce chances of Pulmonary embolism. They are placed in Inferior vena cava.

Thrombolysis is the administration of thrombolytic clot busting agent directly into the affected vein through a catheter, which acts to enzymatically break up clots & clears the blocked vein. This reduces the risk of post-thrombotic syndrome by a third, and reduce the risk of leg ulcers.
